About the CEO

Amanda Adrian LLB (UNSW), BA (UNE), RN, FTCN (NSW), FRCNA

Ms Amanda Adrian was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council (ANMC), commencing on 2 August 2010. Amanda came to the ANMC after being Principal of Amanda Adrian & Associates since 2004. Amanda Adrian & Associates was her own multi-faceted private practice working on many projects using her broad range of skills, knowledge experience and contacts in health policy, law & regulation, ethics, governance, consumer rights and quality and safety in health care.
 
Amanda has had a long involvement with the nursing profession and has held senior management positions within the health sector. She has a strong background in law and regulation and ethics and policy in health care. Amanda has worked with the ANMC in the past on a number of projects in the past that are relevant to the work of the re-constituted ANMC and the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA). These projects include the review and development of the Codes of professional conduct and ethics for nurses and midwives in Australia (published in 2009); guidelines on professional boundaries; guidelines for the re-entry of nurses and midwives to practise; and mapping the regulatory of the processes for managing complaints and reports concerning the conduct, health and performance of nurses and midwives in each of the States and Territories in Australia.
 
Amanda has also been involved in many projects relating to the improvement in the delivery of health services and the review and development of health policy. In addition, she possesses extensive experience in governance, sitting on a number of boards and board committees..
 
Amanda has also had in depth experience in quality improvement in health care and a strong commitment to improving the safety and quality of health, education and evidence based policy and clinical decision making.
 
Amanda has a Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Bachelor of Laws Degree and qualifications in general nursing and operating theatre management.
