Country Profiles for the Nursing and Midwifery Regulatory Authorities of the Western Pacific and South East Asian Regions
Forward
This collection of Country Profiles for the Nursing and Midwifery Regulatory Authorities of the Western Pacific and South East Asian Regions has been produced as a communication and networking tool. The Country Profiles format allows quick access to individual country information and also easy cross-referencing between countries. The information in the Country Profiles varies considerably depending on the amount of information supplied or the quantity of it condensed into the information sheets.
The need for a database of information on the two regions was suggested at the Second Western Pacific and South East Asian Regulatory Meeting held in Brisbane in 1998. The Country Profiles were produced for the 2000 Meeting in Bangkok and the 2002 Meeting in Hong Kong. The Country Profiles have been updated in time for the Western Pacific and South East Asian Regulatory Meeting held in Wellington 2006.
Detailed information is unfortunately not available on all countries. It is encouraging to note that country information has increased each time the Country Profiles are updated. For some countries in our two regions translation into English may be an added difficulty in communicating this information.
This is an opportunity for the country to share ideas or just outline projects carried out since the last Meeting. It is hoped that in time this section can be used to inform other countries of relevant work in progress. This might enable countries struggling with similar issues to assist each other between Meetings.
We hope you find these Country Profiles useful and informative. The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council would welcome any comments you have.

The information contained in these Country Profiles was obtained from questionnaires sent out by the Australian & Midwifery Nursing Council (ANMC) in 1996, 2000 2002 and 2006. The questionnaire was sent to all Regulatory Authorities in the Western Pacific and South East Asian Regions.
During this period other work on nursing and midwifery regulation has been carried out in the regions and where possible this information has been included in the appropriate country profile.
