Development of Standards and Criteria for the Accreditation of Return to Practice Courses for Nurses and Midwives in Australia

The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council undertook a project to develop accreditation standards and criteria for courses leading to re-entry to the register for nurses and midwives. The development of these accreditation standards and criteria will complement the work already completed in the development of national standards and criteria for the accreditation of nursing and midwifery courses leading to registration, enrolment, endorsement and authorisation in Australia.
There are three draft standards and criteria - Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses and Midwives. (As these standards and criteria are for re-entry to the register and a Nurse Practitioner must first re-enter the register as a registered nurse there are no standards for the Nurse Practitioner.)

The ACMI has actively contributed in the development of this research project through participation on the Project Management Committee and by providing advice to the consultancy team through the Australian National Education Standards Taskforce of the ACMI.
